The year 2005 has been selected for this international action because in this year it is 100 years since Einsteinðs articles forming the basis for the largest parts of the modern physics: theory of relativity, quantum theory, and theory of Brownian motion, were published. The aim of this action is to attract the attention of the general public and the leaders of worldðs countries to the field of physics that is of primary importance in the development of all other sciences, techniques, and technology and has a significant influence on the cultural and other sides of the peopleðs life. Within the WYP, physical societies of different countries hold, jointly with the state authorities responsible for control of science and education, international and national conferences, competitions among pupils and students, various dis-cussions, and information-educational actions. The Belarusian Physical Society (BPS) also curries out a number of arrangements in 2005 for the purpose of increasing the interest of the authorities in physics and their attention to it. The most important of these arrangements is the Congress of Belarusian Physicists. At the Congress of Belarusian Physicists it is planned to discuss problems on the state and development of the physical science and physical education in Belarus; hear reports of leading scientists devoted to directions in physics that are developed most rapidly in Belarus, and conduct round-table discussions on the role of physics and physical knowledge in the peopleðs life.
